Must Try: No Name Hainanese Curry Rice

2014-01-09 12.26.35

Hello everyone! This is actually a revamped post, so some of you might have read this article before! I changed the photos because the previous ones were really small and not as appetizing. This post promises more tantalizing photos and a slight more details  🙂

So anyways, introducing the BEST CURRY RICE IN SINGAPORE! (in my opinion of course)
Hainanese curry rice is similar to economical rice, just that you have certain standard ingredients to choose from, like fried pork chops and stewed vegetables (chap chye)! And of course, the gravy would be curry!

This curry rice is my family’s favorite so honestly if it is approved by my dad (who is a fussy pot about food haha), it is definitely worth trying. Plus, the crowd really justifies the food. The queue is always super long (about 40 mins on weekends, you have to stand and q- which is quite tiring but totally worth it).

SO HERE’S THE INGREDIENTS THAT YOU MUST ORDER:

Firstly, you have got to try their pork chops! These pork chops are the reasons why I feel that this is indeed the best. The pork chops are crispy and flavorful. One bite and its a burst of flavour. You can keep eating and munching on those, even without the rice/gravy. SUPER SHIOK.
No one goes to this curry rice stall without ordering this- no one can ever bear to do that.

Next thing that you must order is the steamed meat patty (lion’s head)! It’s so so good! It’s tender, juicy and tasty. You know how some of the meat patties have that disgusting and weird meat taste, this one doesn’t have it. Drizzle the curry gravy over it, mix it with a little rice, there you go.. A spoonful of delight!

If its too much of a meat overload for you, do order the stewed vegetables (chap chye) as well! I think this dish is really good (though not extraordinary), but more importantly, it gives the final piece of completion to this delicious, hearty meal!

So there you go, the complete masterpiece of foodporn.

If you want to try more dishes that are good, you could order their braised 3 layer pork and their curry chicken. But the meat loaf (lion’s head) and fried pork chops is a must order, no regrets for sure!

If you only love curry rice for the curry, I think a better option would be scissors cut curry rice! Their curry gravy is better than here’s. But I think the ingredients in scissors cut curry rice can’t compare. So yes, just a disclaimer! The curry gravy here is good, but not out of the world!

  1. I don’t know where the name lion head came from but it definitely taste good and that’s all that matters. Maybe the only flaw is that they have C for hygiene, but the thing is there is one very true rule of thumb which most goodies adhere to, “the dirtier the place, the better the food” . Cleanliness and quality of food are inversely related, if you don’t believe me then please do try the food at the hospitals someday 🙂
